Twisters reviews have been reasonably bullish on the movie and it also “blew away” box office expectations this weekend, so I want to make it clear this is an annoyance and not a game changer for a movie that is otherwise a fun ride. But if you, like me, felt like you didn’t get the romantic movie moment you wanted, Daisy Edgar-Jones confirmed to Collider you can blame another famous director. Twisters almost had a big kiss between Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Kate and Glenn Powell’s Tyler, and I’m glad that Steven Spielberg’s notes on the film kept it from being included in the finished movie. Twisters is a big spectacle blockbuster that is grounded thanks to a group of surprisingly realistic main characters.

The band’s first two months of current residency shows, in June and July, were canceled after Tyler entered rehab in May following a decade of sobriety. Powell confirmed it in an interview and also there’s a viral video running around TikTok and Instagram proving his comment true. So, they gave themselves the option, but at the end of the day, they went kiss-free. Twisters didn’t need an overt romance subplot to still feel romantic. A potential sequel (which might be more likely given the impressive box office success of Twisters) could be a better place to explore that, especially now that Kate has confronted her trauma and grown as a result. It would give the pair more time to establish a grounded romance, and could be more throughly fit into the narrative.

One of the big underlying connections in the film is that one that grows between Kate and Tyler.
